Andy Murray injures himself in his sleep

British number one Andy Murray has withdrawn from a tennis competition after damaging a nerve in his backside whilst he was sleeping.

The world number three stated that he has hurt his sciatic nerve in his right buttock overnight on the night of Monday 31 October. He woke the next morning incapable of walk properly, and a trip to the doctors confirmed that he had damaged a nerve.

Murray was supposed to be playing in the Swiss Indoors Competition in Basel, together with his first match against the Dutch player Robin Haase, but withdrew to recuperate. He was also due to play in a doubles game at the tournament alongside his brother Jamie.

He expects to be able to play in the Paris Masters and ATP World Finals, which both take place at the end of November.
